Health & Nutrition Information

We've all grown up learning about the five food groups (Dairy, Meat, Vegetables, Fruit and Breads) and how important it is for each of us to eat healthy, but not all of us are aware of how much of each group is considered healthy and which are needed more than others. That's why the Food Guide Pyramid was created to help us know. Now, there are two, one for children ages 1 - 5 and one for everyone else. These are both listed below:

A Daily Guide for 1 - 5 Year Olds:

Milk Group 4 Servings
Meat Group 2 Servings
Vegetable Group 3 Servings
Fruit Group 2 Servings
Grain Group 6 Servings

A Daily Guide for People Over 6:

Milk Group 2-3 Servings
Meat Group 2-3 Servings
Vegetable Group 3-5 Servings
Fruit Group 2-4 Servings
Grain Group 6-11 Servings

Of course, Fats & Sweets are a part of both pyramids, but this group should be the smallest portion of any meal, for both young and old alike

Learning to eat good is only part of a healthy diet. Exercise and drinking plenty of water are essential to keep the body fit.

You should drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water per day. Water helps the body cleanse itself of unwanted excess. It is said the body is 2/3 water.

Of course, not everyone these days has time to work out for hours on end day after day. A minimum of at least 10 minutes per day, 3 days per week of just walking can help.

Sometimes you can get the most excerise by just playing with your children, and this in turn helps them to keep active, instead of just sitting down every night in front of the television
